Living Room Furniture Advice for a Family-Friendly Room

Does your family tend to head off to different rooms of your home because your living room furniture isn’t very family-friendly? Does your sofa act more like a closet than its intended purpose? When it comes to relaxing at the end of the day or enjoying the weekend, nobody wants to suffer with an uncomfortable sofa. Here are some tips for turning your living room into a place where your family will love to hang out together:

  • Room for Cuddling – If you have younger children who love to cuddle, or you want a place to snuggle with your special someone while you watch a favorite movie, your choice for living room furniture should include room to do those things. Separate recliners aren’t going to work as well as a sofa or sectional would, unless they are extra wide.
  • Upholstery – Consider upholstery that has a nice feel to it and will provide comfort throughout the year. Some fabrics may be beautiful, but they can be rough on the skin, easy to “stick” to when wearing summer attire, or can hold body heat, which may be nice in the winter but not so much in the summer. If your family likes to snack in the living room, consider fabrics that are easy to clean and stain-resistant or you’ll soon have an unappealing sofa that nobody wants to sit on.
  • Fits the Room – Your living room furniture should also fit well in the room so that everyone has a good view of the television and can also communicate easily with family members. Be sure to leave room for side tables for holding the remote controls, drinks, and snacks.
