Keeping Your Pets in Mind When Shopping for Furniture

It is always exciting to shop for new furniture for your home and you likely have certain features and styles that best suit your preferences. If you have pets, however, you should also consider how well your choices will survive the added challenges that the furry member of your family can present. Here are some tips for shopping for furniture to keep in mind if you have pets:

  • Bedroom Furniture – Do your pets sleep with you? There are some studies that show that this might not be the best idea, but if you really can’t fathom not curling up with your beloved cat or dog at night, make sure to choose bedroom furniture and mattress size to accommodate you and your pets. It may be nice to have them all crowded around you on a cold night for the added body heat, but in the summer, you’ll want to be able to spread out more – and so will they!
  • Living Room Furniture – One of the most important considerations for a pet-friendly living room is choosing upholstery that is stain resistant and easy to clean. Accidents are going to happen, from coughing up fur balls, drooling after drinking or eating, or coming in from outdoors bringing a bit of it in with them. Also consider the durability of the fabric for resistance from claws. It isn’t just cats that can claw up furniture as other pets can snag furniture inadvertently as well.
